Spain: Cómpeta

Spain: Cómpeta
Your Rating:Four Stars
Reviewed by: Marja Kupers
Date of Trip: August 15, 2003

Overview
Cómpeta is a small village in the hills of La Axarquma, Malaga, Andalucma in Spain. A typical white village, not to big but big enough to have a good time, the sea is at half an hour, made some excellent walks in the Nature Park, enjoyed the wine and the fiestas.

Getting There
Went straight to the airport of Malaga and rented a car for an hours drive to the village, first part was high way and then half an hour a windy road in the mountains. I stayed at Hotel Balcon de Cómpeta in the centre of the village, can't miss it, for the sign posts and it is a small village

Accommodations
The hotel has 3 stars, rooms are fully equiped and nicely decorated in spanish style, very clean. Good restaurant, terrace with great views and good looking waiters who are ever so friendly. Swimming pool with garden to sunbath and bbq in the weekends.

Food and Service
Had breakfast at the hotel, also enjoyed their dinner but since Cómpeta has lots of restaurants and bars with good and reasonably priced food also went out to visit other places. People generally speak basic english, some of them very good, the Csmpeteqos are happy people. Liked trying the local dishes with wine and garlic.

Activities
I was there during the Night of the Wine, every year the 15th of August they celebrate their wine party, free food and wine during the day and flamenco music during the night. Other days the bars have live music. Went to visit Malaga and Granada and spent a day on the beach. The National Park is very near and although it was hot, was nice to take a stroll there.

Fitness
Walking around the village is exercise enough with the steep streets and stairs. Apart from that took a swim at the hotel. Surely there's a gym for the inhabitants, haven't got details about that
